Teacher CPD @ Tŷ Pawb

This free training is suitable for primary and secondary school teachers with an interest in developing their confidence in embedding visual arts skills across the curriculum. You don’t need “good at art” to take part, just excited to play and explore!

These three hands-on sessions will nurture the development of sketchbooks as a tool for exploring materials, techniques and observational skills.

We encourage attending all three sessions, but they can be booked independently. All sessions include a visit to the gallery.

Workshop 1:- Discovering Qualities
31/01/2025, 18:00 – 19:30

Working with a broad range of resources (including found objects and discarded materials) can offer new visual and sensory experiences. The session will cover:

· Discovering and combining materials

· Discussion, questioning and terminology

· Making work that can be compiled to provide a creative work book

Workshop 2:- Layers
21/03/2025, 18:00 – 19:30

Building an image can include various ways of adding and removing layers, and materials can encourage ideas to shift and change. This workshop will include:

· Producing sketchbook-based collages that can be reshaped

· Creating space for critical thinking

· Developing oracy skills in the process of redefining artwork

Workshop 3:- Scale, Sculpture and Surfaces
13/06/2025, 18:00 – 19:30

Transforming materials into objects tests our observation skills and our ability to relate and redefine. This session will include:

· Observation and drawing, a key to developing spaces for forms

· Teaching by ‘Scaffolding’

· The journey and transformation from sketch to sculpture

Robin Bailey
Poet, Teacher and Senior Leader with over 17 years’ experience of delivering high quality training to early career, middle and senior leaders. Qualified as a Google Educator, he has a passion for how technology can be used to transform learning both in and beyond the classroom.

Wendy Connelly
Professional artist, exhibiting world-wide, managing commissions and a qualified lecturer for over 15 years. A member of the Chelsea Arts Club and Engage. Wendy runs workshops from her studio, including as an Arts Award advisor offering Discover through to Gold awards.
